Im Katie Johnston, owner of Busy Minds Counselling. As a neuro-diverse counsellor with an MSC in Pluralistic Counselling, I care about using my skills to help others gain a new perspective. My approach is to keep things simple and make the experience of counselling as accessible as possible.
About me and my practice
I provide a safe and confidential space to explore your concerns and work collaboratively to build a therapeutic relationship to understand you without judgement and to support your growth and change to achieve the outcomes you want. Working with me will be a collaborative experience as I listen with empathy and help you explore creative solutions to the challenges you face.
Im whats known as a pluralistic counsellor which means my approach is not defined by one way of working. I have the skills to work across a range of modalities and bring lots of different tools and techniques to our sessions. I often think of it like cooking; its like having access to lots of different ingredients that I can choose from to make the chosen dish to taste, instead of only having enough to make the same single dish.
Experience
With an MSC in Pluralistic Counselling I have experience working with a range of issues. I have a keen interest in working with ADHD as a practitioner who is Neurodivergent, Autism, those experiencing complex trauma, PTSD, bereavement, anxiety, depression, disabilities, anger issues, as well as cancer, and chronic pain or health related issues. Whatever it is that brings you to counselling, you can be sure of an opportunity to be heard.
Qualifications
I have an MSC in Pluralistic Counselling from Abertay University. Ive also completed ASIST Suicide Prevention Training, am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and an accredited register member of the Professional Standards Authority.
